It is the first of the We Were Here series to arrive on Xbox One, with the sequel We Were Here Too scheduled for release just a few weeks later on October 2nd. Overall, though, We Were Here is a fantastic coop horror game that will hopefully take off amongst co-op enthusiasts in the future. The only downside with this game is the in-game VOIP doesn't work too well, forcing you to use something like Discord. This game thrives in atmosphere instead of full-blown scares, which works to its advantage. There are areas with some mild jump scares and some actual panic-inducing rooms that play on a common human fear, such as being trapped or drowning. It's important to note that this game is more creepy than full-blown horror. This makes it so you both have to keep the conversation on topic instead of diffusing the tension with chatter about other things. You both have clues that will help the other escape, and so you must constantly be communicating about the game itself. The main gameplay loop of this game is ingenious - you and your coop partner are split up and are trapped. If you have it installed, then you can go to this link to install it. How can you be scared if you constantly have a friend watching your back, or if you two can laugh off and joke about whatever scares are coming your way? How can a creepy atmosphere affect you if you can distract yourselves just constantly chattering? Well, We Were Here fixes that ingeniously. Horror games and co-op have historically not gone together at all.
